QUALMI-25: ADVANCED STABILITY

COURSE LENGTH: 40 HOURS (5 DAYS)

This 40-hour course of instruction is designed to familiarize and assist the trainee in gaining knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

a. Understanding theories and factors affecting trim and stability and be able to use tables, diagrams, and stress calculations.

b. Have knowledge of the effect on trim and stability of a ship in the event of damage to and consequent flooding of a compartment and countermeasures to be taken will be understood.

c. Have knowledge concerning intact stability.

Completion of this training will satisfy the Advanced Stability training requirements as specified in Table A-II/2 of the STCW Code for certification as Master of Chief Mate on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC). Additionally, the practical assessments conducted in this course will be accepted as the equivalent of the following assessments from the National Assessment Guidelines for Table A-II/2 of the STCW Code: M-9-1A; M-9-1B; M-9-1C; and M-9-1D. Applicants who have successfully completed this course need not present the completed “Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
