QUALMI-32: Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Of Towing Vessels On Western Rivers

Course Description:

Our Apprentice Mate (Steersman) on Western Rivers course covers the theoretical and practical knowledge of topics including:  • Navigation, charts and maps • River hydrology • Bridges and locks • Aids to Navigation • Vessel Traffic Service Systems • USACE Electronic Charting.

 

Applicants successfully completing this course and presents our Certificate of Training to the U.S. Coast Guard within one year of the completion of training, will satisfy the Navigation General (072X4) and Navigation Problems (075XX) examination requirements for a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Western Rivers; provided they have successfully completed our Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Upgrade (QUALMI-33) course or hold a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Near Coastal or Inland or have satisfied the examination requirements for a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Near Coastal or Inland, within the previous 12 months.

 

Examination: Two written examinations are administered for successful completion of this course:

(1) Navigation General -15 multiple choice questions, require a minimum passing score of 73.3%.

(2) Navigation Problems – 10 problems, require a minimum passing score of 90%.
