This course is intended to satisfy the professional examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.501 (c)(5) for a national rating endorsement as QMED-Oiler. Each student who successfully completes this course will have gained the functional knowledge, understanding and skills that are covered and presented in this course of instruction:
1.0 General engineering subjects.
2.0 Electrical subjects
3.0 Shipboard equipment and system subjects
4.0 Steam propulsion and steam generation subjects
5.0 Motor propulsion; and diesel engine operating principles
6.0 Safety and environmental projection subjects
This course is open to any student pursuing the national rating endorsement as QMED-Oiler. Each student should have met the general requirements of 46 CFR 12.501; and the minimum sea service required to qualify for the national rating endorsement as required in 46 CFR 12.503.
