Course Description:

This Course Covers The Training Requirements For Vessel Security Officer Of Section A-VI/5 Of The STCW Code, As Amended; AND Satisfies The Training Requirements Of 33 CFR § 104.215(D)(Iv) For An STCW Endorsement As Vessel Security Officer.  Those Who Successfully Complete This Course Will Have Demonstrated Knowledge, Understanding, And Proficiency In The Following Competencies:

  1. Maintaining And Supervising The Implementation Of A Vessel Security Plan;
  2. Assessing Security Risk, Threat, And Vulnerability;
  3. Undertaking Regular Inspections Of The Vessel To Ensure That Appropriate Security Measures Are Implemented And Maintained;
  4. Ensuring That Security Equipment And Systems, If Any, Are Properly Operated, Tested, And Calibrated:
  5. Encouraging Security Awareness And Vigilance; And
  6. Ensuring Compliance With The TWIC Program Requirements.

Examination/Assessment:

Practical Assessment.

  1. Demonstrate The Ability To Assess Security Risk, Threats, And Vulnerability And Can Describe The Procedures And Develop The Necessary Check Lists To Carry Out The Following:
  2. Conduct Physical Searches.
  3. Conduct Non-Intrusive Inspections.
  4. Demonstrate The Knowledge And Ability To Implement In Accordance With A Vessel/Ship Security Plan The Security Actions Required To Reduce Vulnerability In Response To Increased Risk Or Threats To The Vessel.
  5. Demonstrate The Knowledge And Ability In Accordance With A Vessel/Ship Security Plan Correctly Complete A Security Incident Report In A Format That Transmits The Required Information.

Written Examination: There Is One 30 Question Written Examination Administered At The End Of The Course.  A Passing Score Is 21 Correct Answers Or 70%.
