QUALMI-573: VESSEL SECURITY OFFICER (VSO)
This Course Covers The Training Requirements For Vessel Security Officer Of Section A-VI/5 Of The STCW Code, As Amended; AND Satisfies The Training Requirements Of 33 CFR § 104.215(D)(Iv) For An STCW Endorsement As Vessel Security Officer.
Those Who Successfully Complete This Course Will Have Demonstrated Knowledge, Understanding, And Proficiency In The Following Competencies:
- Maintaining And Supervising The Implementation Of A Vessel Security Plan;
- Assessing Security Risk, Threat, And Vulnerability;
- Undertaking Regular Inspections Of The Vessel To Ensure That Appropriate Security Measures Are Implemented And Maintained;
- Ensuring That Security Equipment And Systems, If Any, Are Properly Operated, Tested, And Calibrated:
- Encouraging Security Awareness And Vigilance; And
- Ensuring Compliance With The TWIC Program Requirements.
- Examination/Assessment
Practical Assessment.
- Demonstrate The Ability To Assess Security Risk, Threats, And Vulnerability And Can Describe The Procedures And Develop The Necessary Check Lists To Carry Out The Following:
- Conduct Physical Searches.
- Conduct Non-Intrusive Inspections.
- Demonstrate The Knowledge And Ability To Implement In Accordance With A Vessel/Ship Security Plan The Security Actions Required To Reduce Vulnerability In Response To Increased Risk Or Threats To The Vessel.
- Demonstrate The Knowledge And Ability In Accordance With A Vessel/Ship Security Plan Correctly Complete A Security Incident Report In A Format That Transmits The Required Information.
Written Examination:
There Is One 30 Question Written Examination Administered At The End Of The Course. A Passing Score Is 21 Correct Answers Or 70%.
